A classic whey protein designed for post-workout use

This Classic Cocoa Whey is Protéalpes’ original formula—the one that built the brand’s reputation. Unlike the no-added-sugar line, it combines high-quality protein and carbohydrates derived from real organic whole cane sugar in a single shaker. The idea is simple: after intense exercise, muscles need amino acids, but they also need carbohydrates to replenish glycogen stores and promote the transport of amino acids to muscle cells through the insulin response. Most brands solve this equation with artificial sweeteners, which add sweetness without providing calories or carbohydrates. Protéalpes takes the opposite approach: providing real carbohydrates that benefit the body rather than empty calories.

A serving prepared in a shaker has a carbohydrate concentration of about 5—a ratio designed to combine rehydration and energy intake. The sugar equivalent? That of a half an apple. Enough to fulfill its physiological function, without turning the drink into soda.

Real sugar: a rare and conscious choice

In the sports nutrition industry, finding a sweetened whey protein made with real sugar has become the exception. Sweeteners like sucralose are 600 times sweeter than sucrose: just a few grams are enough to sweeten an entire batch, whereas real sugar takes up space and adds bulk to the mixture. For manufacturers, this represents a significant cost savings. For the consumer, it’s a product whose sweet taste comes from a synthetic molecule with no nutritional value.

The organic whole-cane sugar selected by Protéalpes is unrefined. It retains its natural minerals (potassium, magnesium, iron) and plays a genuine functional role in the formula: it is the source of carbohydrates that supports recovery. It is neither a flavoring nor an excipient; it is an active ingredient in its own right.

A concise and easy-to-read formula

The ingredient list for the classic line fits on a single line. No lecithin (usually extracted from soybeans using solvents), no artificial flavors, no thickeners, no artificial colors, and no sweeteners—no sucralose, no aspartame, no acesulfame K, and no steviol glycosides. The secondary ingredients (cocoa, sugar, coconut flour) are organically grown and Ecocert-certified (FR-BIO-01). It’s a formula you can read and understand at a glance, with ingredients you recognize.

Alpine whey from the Beaufort supply chain

The protein isolate used in this whey comes from the whey produced during the manufacturing of Beaufort cheese in the Rhône-Alpes region. Protéalpes works directly with the Union des Producteurs de Beaufort, a cooperative of small-scale farms, with no middlemen, no wholesalers, and no purchasing cooperative.

The cows—Tarine and Abondance breeds, traditional breeds adapted to the mountain environment—graze at high altitudes, up to 2,500 meters, and are fed grass and hay from the geographic area, which is GMO-free. The whey produced from this process is mechanically cold-filtered using microfiltration/ultrafiltration at Protéalpes’ facilities in Albertville, then spray-dried in a matter of milliseconds. No heat treatment takes place before drying: the proteins retain their native structure and their complete amino acid profile.

No part of the process is outsourced. Formulation, production, and packaging are all carried out in-house in Albertville, ensuring full traceability from the Alpine pasture to the bag.

Developed by pharmacists, meets anti-doping standards

All Protéalpes formulas are developed by a team of pharmacists who are themselves athletes and daily users of their products. Each batch is certified to comply with the European sports standard NF EN 17444, which guarantees the absence of doping contaminants. This is a critical issue, given that approximately 15% of dietary supplements on the market contain banned substances (Geyer et al., Int J Sport Med, 2004).

In the shaker and in the kitchen

Pour 150 to 200 ml of liquid (water, milk, plant-based milk) into a shaker, add one scoop using the included measuring spoon or 4 tablespoons, and shake. The slightly sweet taste of the classic line makes it a particularly good ingredient for indulgent recipes: pancakes, porridge, cakes, and smoothies. Since it contains no additives or artificial sweeteners, the mixture can be heated without the risk of thermal degradation of undesirable compounds.

Usage

When and How to Use

How to prepare your shaker?

Start by pouring 200 ml of liquid (water, milk, plant-based milk, or a blend to your taste) into your protein shaker. Then add one serving (40g) using the measuring scoop or 4 tablespoons.

Close the shaker and shake it up and down several times. Finish with a few slow circular movements to bring everything together evenly.

About foam: These formulas contain no lecithin or any other anti-foaming agent. A thin layer of foam may therefore form after shaking. This is a natural phenomenon, and a sign of undenatured, high-purity protein. It disappears on its own within a few minutes. Tip: in warm weather, store your pouch in a cool place (a cellar or the fridge) to keep this to a minimum.

When to take your whey protein?

After training : This is the key moment. Your muscle fibres have been put to work and your glycogen stores have been drawn upon. A intake of protein and carbohydrates in the minutes following exercise optimises the recovery window. The classic range, with its whole cane sugar, delivers this protein + carbohydrate combination in a single serving.

At breakfast : To break your overnight fast, support satiety, and start the day with a supply of essential amino acids.

As a snack : Between meals, to top up your daily protein intake without weighing down your plate.

Before bed : Whey contains tryptophan, an amino acid that is a precursor to melatonin. In this case, opt for the no added sugars range to avoid any blood sugar spike that could disrupt the onset of sleep.

More than just a shaker

Protealpes whey also lends itself to cooking: pancakes, cakes, porridges, smoothies, and many other recipes. Because these formulas are free from additives and sweeteners, they can be heated without any risk of releasing unwanted compounds, unlike proteins containing sucralose or other artificial sweeteners.

For Whom
